Synopsis

Trainer and martial artist Rosie Miller's zen is seriously compromised when Hunter Black—her former coach and lover—becomes her new boss. And with all the sexual energy still crackling between them, her poor little zen doesn't stand a chance. So this time, Rosie is determined to play by her rules….

Burned - the story of Hayley's sister - Rosie. It was vey much similar to hayley's story with the main difference that the hero was someone from Rosie's past. Hunter was was her first and only love and he re-appears in her life 5 years kater, after walking out on her.

Mini Review

It's a nice, hot second-chance romance where the hero and heroine meet 5 years after he left her. They've both grown up and changed and while the attraction between them is as strong as ever, being together is not that easy.

This is the story of the other Miller sister, Rosie and in many ways it's similar to Hayley's, to similar, I'd say. A major weakness for me was that it lacked the humour of book 1 and I found Rosie to be more insecure than Hayeley.

Rosie was determined to Hunter at bay despite their explosive chemistry. Just like Hayley she tried to keep her feelings out of their sexscapedes and just like Hayeley, she discovered it was impossible. This time around it was Hayeley that helped her sister keep her true love.

Rosie was strong and independent, she had overcome her issues but she was clueless how to be in a mature relationship with Hunter. I didn't like how scared of her feelings she was, how unwilling to open her heart to love again.

Hunter, on the other hand, was great - determined, going after what he wants and at the same time he was careful with Rosie. I liked how he owned up to his mistakes and wanted a chance to prove his love to her.

As with previous book, I found the story too simple and predictable. The characters didn't really win me for their cause and the lack of humour made this a less enjoyable read than Ripped.

Waiting on Wednesday 04

22:04

I joined a new book meme last week. Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and it features books that we are eagerly awaiting to be released.

Title: Then Came You (Animal Magnetism #4)
Author: Jill Shalvis
Genre: Romance, Veterinarians

Release Date: 1 July 2014

Pre-order: Amazon | |B&N | iBooks

Synopsis

Veterinary intern Emily can’t believe she wound up in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho, instead of the Los Angeles clinic she had always imagined. Now she has to put her plans to move to L.A. on hold for a whole year while she fulfills the obligation of her vet school scholarship.

Then Wyatt, her gorgeous one-night stand from a Reno vet conference, introduces himself as her new boss. And Emily is just as drawn to his seductive looks and quiet strength as she was on that very steamy night. She soon learns that Wyatt isn’t just a laid-back doctor, but a delicious alpha male tempting her away from her carefully laid-out plans...

Why I am waiting on this? - I'm a big fan of Ms Shalvis' romances and her Animal Magnetism series is one of my favourite. Hot sexy animal doctors, in this case both the hero and the heroine are vets, what's not to like about it :)

Teaser Tuesday 62

00:00

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Here are the rules:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) or a few more “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page.

My teaser this week comes from Fall from India Place (On Dublin Street #4) by Samantha Young. I just finished it and it was a nice romance but I expected more from it.

I was costing along, almost a little smug not only in my present contentment, but also in the fact that I'd beaten my issues with the past. Little did I know that the past doesn't take too kindly to smugness, to disinterest. The past can be spiteful. It can creep up on the present to taunt it with the memories and all the old hurts.

Synopsis

"Wardrobe malfunction" doesn't begin to cover it.

With a rip louder than the "I dos," Hayley's hideous bile-yellow bridesmaid dress explodes. She's always had enviable curves, but nearly naked wasn't quite the look she'd been going for at her ex's wedding.

She's rushed from the altar under the best man's designer tux jacket. Hayley's expecting a blast of icy disapproval from sexy, sophisticated Niccolò Rossi—his usual reaction to anything she does. What she gets is a kiss that nearly melts what's left of her polyester nightmare gown.

It's impossible on a million levels. Exuberant engineer Hayley and buttoned-up lawyer Nico have never seen eye to eye—but skin to skin? Oh, mio… So when Nico shows up at her flat on Christmas Day to give her a fabulous gift—himself—Hayley's delighted to do the unwrapping. But it's just a holiday fling. By New Year's Day, she'll come back to her senses…unless Nico's sensual skills tear away all her resolve.

Mini Review

Ripped is novella for the Cosmo Red Hot Reads and it's book 1 about the Miller sisters. I've read and enjoyed The O'Neil borthers series by Sarah Morgan and the blurb for this one made me curious to check it out as well.

It's a nice fairytale Christmas romance where I loved the first half and was disappointed by the second. The story started rather promising - a wardrobe malfunction at a wedding led to scorching hot, yet confusing encounter between the hero, Nico and the heroine, Hayley.

I liked Hayley a lot initially, she was smart and funny and her musings on life, love and men read a lot a cute chick-lit. Hayley was a professional woman who bad luck with men since they were usually intimidated by her brains and didn't appreciated her career-oriented lifestyle.

Nico, on the other hand, was just perfect from the start, too good to be true. We see him through Hayley's eyes and even though she finds him irresistible but believes he disapproves of her. All this leads to a lot of misunderstanding and some very hot loving between the two of them.

It was at Christmas dinner and what followed where things lost their balance for me. From then on the story read just like a rather simple a fairy tale cliche. The hero is in love with the heroine but she fights it because she doesn't believe he can love someone like her. The smart and funny Hayley lost all her common sense and self-confidence and she couldn't believe someone like him could actually fall for someone like her. She insisted on her New Year resolution for no-strings-attached sex, even though she knew it was not working for her. It was a magic reunion at Midnight on New Year's Eve led to fairytale happy end.

It was a nice hot romance but I was definitely disappointed with Hayley - her transition from a smart, witty and self-confidant woman to a self-conscious, immature girl who is afraid to admit her feelings didn't sit well with me.

The story was quite predictable but there were a few good laughs there and Nico was just yummy, making this an enjoyable quick read for a rainy afternoon or a day on the beach.
