Synopsis

Divorce lawyer Victoria Slade has seen enough unhappy endings to swear off marriage forever. That doesn't mean she's opposed to casual dating—just not with her cocky new neighbor, who is as gorgeous and tempting as he is off-limits. But once she agrees to take on his sister's case, she's as determined to win as ever—even if that means teaming up with Ford…

Investigative journalist Ford Dixon is bent on finding the man who got his sister pregnant and left her high and dry. He's willing to partner with Victoria, despite the fact that the beautiful brunette gets under his skin like no other woman. He might not be looking to settle down, but there's no denying the scorching attraction between them. Still, the more time he spends with Victoria, the more he realizes that the one woman as skeptical about love as he is might be the only woman he could really fall for.

Mini Review

I'm a a big fan of Julie James' FBI/US Attorney series and this book is standalone but can be considered a spinoff since the hero, Ford, is actually, Brooke's friend from Love Irresistibly.

Ms James writes low on the drama and angst contemporary romances with strong characters. Her stories flow easily and leave you with a happy smile in the end.

This book turned to be one of my favourite of hers. Ford and Victories are just two people in their early 30s going about their life and falling in love in the process. They feel refreshingly normal - smart, educated, professionals, successful in their jobs but no billionaires. They both some issues to deal with but who doesn't. I loved how ordinary and real this story felt. Both Ford and Victoria read like real people, easy to understand and relate to.

The neighbours-to-lovers trope added humour to the story and made their bickering and subsequently friends-with-benefits scenario cute and sweet.

The subplot with Nicole and her baby daddy also worked well. It was a bit sweet but didn't bother me, I found it fitting to the overall light and easy tone of the story.

If you are looking for a light contemporary romance with well-built characters and engaging plot, you can give this book a try. Fans of Julie James will enjoy for sure this simple, yet entertaining modern-day love story.

Why am I waiting for this book? - I love Julie James' US Attorney/FBI series and this one is loosely connected with it since we met the hero in one of the previous books. My James creates engaging contemproary romances with life-like characters, witty banter and hot chemistry, what more can a girl want. And she just shared the Prologue to this book in her latest newslatter, so now I'm even more impatient for this release.

Review

It's the fifth book in Ms James' contemporary romance series, FBI / US Attorney and it's another winner. This time the story revolves around an upcoming wedding and not professional assignments. The hero in this books is Special FBI Agent Vaughn Roberts whom we met in the previous book, Love Irresistibly. He meets the heroine, Sindey Sinclair by chance but gets rejected by her but they are forced to interact much more than either of them expected since it turns they are the brother and sister respectively to the happy couple to marry, Simon and Isabelle.

It's a very real romance which starts with a blunt rejection, followed a few casual hook-ups and ends with love snucking up both Vaughn and Sidney. She is loving for a long term relationship and he is commitment phobic, but their relationship blossoms despite their differences and initial reluctance to get involved.

Ms James a fantastic job portraying  the present-day 30-something men and women with successful and demanding careers, trying to sort out their personal lives. She makes them sound authentic and easy to relate to. There is no excessive drama or tragedies involving the characters. It's the just a story about ordinary human relationships in all their complexity.

Vaughn was the his witty, confident self we already met in Cade's book. I liked how honest he was about his feelings. There was no big secret behind his unwillingness to commit, it turned out it was just  a matter of meeting the right woman.

Sindey was a wonderful heroine - confident, smart (a true master of sarcasm and snarky remarks), successful, and at the same time she has this softer side. She cares for and loves her family, she is deeply hurt by the betrayal of her ex-fiance and feels insecure and frustrated at having to go back to the dating scene. being a single woman going on dates again. She felt real and easy to relate.

I liked how their relationship developed from not-strings-attached sex to sharing more and more about each other and feeling comfortable being together. She was the first to realize that things between them had changed and her reactiowas to back off. He needed more time and some brotherly advice to see the truth and finally act.

The supporting characters, Vaughn's friends, Cade and Huxley, his brother and and parents, Sindey's sister and her father, they all added texture to the story and put the main romance in perspective.

The story had the expected happy-end, but I just wished there was more of it or some kind of an epilogue.

Overall, this is must-read for fans of the series and I can recommend it to all fans of conteporary romances with strong characters, witty banter and hot sexy times.

Review

I have read most of Ms James previous books in this series and I really enjoyed them. Overall these are contemporary romances featuring strong professional heroes and heroines (mostly lawyers /attorneys, FBI agents and the occasional hacker genius).

In this story both main characters, Cade and Brooke are lawyers. He is an  Assistant U.S. Attorney and she is General Counselor for a restaurant company. US. They are very much alike - successful at highly demanding professions, yet their personals relationships are total failures. Cade and Brooke are both smart and witty and their conversations are a real pleasure to read - continuous jabs and inside jokes.

I was not a big fan of Cade from the previous books but he grew on me in this one. His background story and the side plot with his half-brother really made him stand out in a very positive light to me. He had a lot of personal issues to work through and his journey towards openness, forgiveness and love was an interesting one to follow.

I felt there was slightly more depth and development in Cade's character compared to Brooke. Don't get me wrong, I liked her very much as well, but her issues and how she dealt with them didn't grab my attention as Cade's did. She was very much focused on her career and it stemmed in a way from a kind of obligation she felt to her parents. She just needed to figure what was really important for her, what made her happy and things were pretty easy from then on.

The relationship between Cade and Brooke started casually since they both have been dumped a few times too many, neither of them was willing to go for a more serious sort of relationship. I liked how naturally things between them happened and even the reasons for their break-up seemed quite believable and fitting to the characters.

The story feels very real, it shows some everyday issues couples face today - demanding career for both he man and the woman, some family issues. It was easy to relate to them, they feel like real people with real problems who need to find a compromise between a successful career and successful relationship.

I enjoyed the parallel plot line with Cade's brother and the girl he was trying to impress. It gave some rather cute insight into the complicated relationships of the adults in the story.

The next book in the series, It Happened One Wedding, will tell Vaughn's (FBI agent and Cade's friend) story. It will be released in May and I can't wait to read it!

• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) or a few more “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• Be careful not the include spoilers!

This my 50th Teaser Tuesday and I just want to share with you how much fun I have with this meme! I've come across some great new books, discovered some interesting blogs and made new friends by joining in the Teaser Tuesday book meme!

Today's teaser comes from Love Irresistibly by Julies James. It's the fourth book in her FBI/US Attorney romantic suspense series. The next book, It Happened One Wedding, is coming out in May 2014.

Because to get in with a woman like Brooke, he would need to let her in, too. And that was something her ... just didn't do. Wasn't sure he knew how to do, even if he wanted to.

New Releases This Week 1-7 April 2013

00:06

Here are the new releases I am looking forward to this week. I can't honestly say which one I am most excited about.

I really liked Pushing the Limits, so I expect the same to happen with Crossing the Line, even though it is just a novella.

Krsiten Ashley is one of my most favoutire authors and I have already read and enjoyed many of her novels. The Motorcycle Man is a particular favourite of mine and since the Choas series is a sort of spin-off of it an also considering what a huge fan I am of the TV series Sons of Anarchy, it is safe to say that I have some very high expectations of Own the Wind. Also, keep in mind that the excerpt of the book (Prologue and Chapter 1) published on KA's site already has me heart-broken and addicted to Shy and Tabby's story.

Last, but not least, comes the Julie James's latest FBI/US Attorney novel, Love Irresistibly. I quite enjoyed her previous novels in the series, so this one should be no different. Ms James writes some pretty witty dialogue, strong-willed characters (both the heroes and heroines) and steamy hot scenes. So, in short I am looking forward to enjoying this novel a lot.
