Newly divorced, Avery Hart returns home to Wildwood eager to take on her dream opportunity and transform her family’s dive bar into her own bakery. The contractor for hire isn’t just a master with his hands—he’s big, built, and wears a tool belt like nobody’s business. Despite being an ex-con, Trace Hutton is irresistible. Too bad he’d never go for someone as inexperienced as Avery.

Trace needs to focus on the job at hand, not daydream about smearing icing all over the sexy baker…and licking it off. This job is the key to getting his construction company back on its feet after his time in prison. Besides, no one deserves a fresh start more than Avery, and she certainly won’t get that with him.

After a delectable night of passion (and pie), Trace craves something more. But he’ll be damned if he’ll let his checkered past crush her dreams. And as Avery starts to realize how Trace fulfills more than just her physical needs, she struggles with whether to let her history decide her future, or explore the wild new possibilities of forever…

Review

I loved the first book in the series, Forbidden Fling, and this one is just as good - a moving, sexy, heart-warming romance in a small town setting.

I really like what the author is doing with this series, building a great small town community and populating with the most amazing and intriguing characters. We get the feel-good, heart-warming atmosphere of small-town romance with the added edge of really complex characters, struggling with their past trying to move forward and ultimately falling in love.

I really loved the heroine here. Avery married young her high school sweetheart but their marriage soon turned loveless and she ended back in her hometown, divorced and trying to get a fresh start. I liked the twist of her having been married, yet being very much inexperienced both sexually and romantically. She was understandably cautious with men but couldn't resist falling for Trace. I loved how determined to succeed, personally and professionally she was.

Trace was a great character as well, an ex-con, a ladies' man trying to stay away from Avery because he didn't think he was good enough for her. He had a lot of going on in his life and falling (and trying to stay away from) Avery who on top of everything was his current boss was a complication he didn't need.

They had great chemistry and the sexual attraction was there from the start but nothing happened easily for them. The conflict they had to overcome in order to be together felt very real and the way they bumbled their way into a relationship was fitting to their characters - imperfect, a little lost, a lot hesitant because of their pasts but also hopeful and willing to give love a chance. There were no magical solutions to their personal and professional troubles but hard work and concentrated effort made things work for them.

Both Avery and Trace have a lot going on in their lives when they met each other - both trying to get back on their feet, dealing with difficult family issues (though neither of them was on their own) and both reluctant to enter a relationship and yet unable to resist the attraction between them.

I enjoyed the complex, even slightly convoluted plot and feel it helped bring out all the best/worst qualities of the characters making the reader see them as real people and not just  as figments of the author's imagination.

Wild Kisses is sweet and sexy, real and deeply romantic, definitely a recommended read for me.

Delaney Hart has come a long way from her wild youth, dating tattooed bikers at her father’s bar, The Bad Seed. But when his death pulls her back to Wildwood, California, she must stay to renovate the dive he left her. And also face the lies and secrets that sent her running ten years before.

When Wildwood’s chief building inspector, Ethan Hayes, shows up on the property, Delaney doesn’t recognize him. The last thing he wants to do is save the bar where his cousin died in a brawl. But the good boy from her past is all too willing to remind her of the bad girl she used to be. And one night of passion leaves them both in a compromising position.

The last place Ethan should be is in Delaney’s bed. Guilt, family pressure, and plans for a brewpub of his own make shutting down The Bad Seed his top priority…until his feelings for Delaney interfere. Because her future depends on the success of the bar’s renovation and his dreams are rooted in its failure, their forbidden romance may be destined for heartbreak.

Review

I have read and very much enjoyed Skye Jordan's Renegades series - contemporary romances involving Hollywood actors and stuntmen. These stories are witty and sexy, without too much drama and just feel-good sweetness.

When I saw Ms Jordan was starting a new series I was curious to try it. This time she offers her readers a small-town romance and I'm always on the look out for such stories. There is often risk for them to come off as cheesy and too sentimental but I'm happy to report that this was definitely not the case here.

Forbidden Fling offers a surprising depth of emotion and a really detailed and convincing portrayal of the complexity of family relationships, love, guilt and the struggle to be your own person.

This is an explosive story including family feuds and broken dreams, on the one hand, and on the other it's a love story that shows such delicious sexual chemistry between Ethan and Delaney and their lust for each other gradually turning into love and devotion.

Delaney was amazing, a strong and determined person who tries to build a future for her (and her two sisters) out the ruins of their past. She is a reformed bad girl who has to prove to everyone and mostly to herself that she has a future back in her hometown, that she can turn her life around and stop running from the past and start working on her future in the place where she belongs.

I very much liked Delaney but found Ethan even more interesting - a smart professional and with a promising future, yet totally under the thumb of his family, guilted into submission, force to give up his dreams (for now or forever).

Their meeting proves life changing for both of them. It sparks a wild attraction between them but also pushes them to be better, to try harder, to go for their dreams (despite the conflict arising between them and despite the dangers this places them under).

There is a lot of going back and forth in Ethan and Delaney's relationship, some pretty bad secrets, yet itit didn't feel too much foe me. The problems they face are not easy to solve and it did take them some time, some sacrifice, a lot of re-evaluation and determination to deal with them.

Overall, this is a complex, detailed story set in a richly built background. It has a strong small-town feel which I loved and explored family relations that are messier than most. In short, this is the perfect summer read and strongly urge you to pick up for your vacation.

Synopsis

After a tragic incident in Afghanistan leaves Master Sergeant Nathan Ryker the only man standing in his tight-knit team, he spirals into an alcohol-and-sex induced escape. A call from his lifelong buddy pulls Ryker from the shadows with a request for help with his stunt company’s latest blockbuster. If Ryker can survive the next three weeks of leave and get back to his remaining men, he might just be all right. But a sexy woman who can take his mind off his trauma is too hard to resist, and when he hooks up with Renegades’ sultry, snarky office manager, his sanity takes a backseat to the first glimpse of a future he isn’t sure he deserves.

Still reeling from a bitter romantic betrayal, Rachel Hart wants nothing more than an uncomplicated hookup. So when the mysterious Nathan seduces her with a little dirty talk and one delicious kiss, Rachel drowns all her good sense in a Mandarin and soda and gives herself over to a night of sexual bliss. But her memories tarnish in the morning light when Rachel discovers his real identity and his link to Renegades. Her job and her friends are the only thing holding her life together, and she won’t be ruined by one sultry night with this damaged and dangerously sexy man.

Review

It's book 3 in the Renegades series which is contemporary romance series focused on a stunt company in LA. This one was about Rachel, the company's secretary/office manager and to-go girl and Nathan Ryker, Troy's best buddy and a explosive specialist in the military.

This is hands down my favourite book of the series so far. I loved both Rachel and Nathan and their romance was both sizzling hot and tender. There is some angst and seriousness of the issues dealt with in this story (unlike the previous two books which are lighter reads) but once again there is no unnecessary drama and the characters seem real and easy to relate to.

The affair between Rachel and Nathan starts as a one-night stand with a stranger (at least she thinks so) and then continues as a secret affair on the set of the biggest stunt/blasting scene they are filming.

I like the writing style of Ms Jordan, she draws the reader into the story and manages to make all the characters, main and secondary seem real and full of life. The story flows easily, there is a lot of fun and sexy times.

This time we get a true broken, tortured hero in Ryker, unlike Jax ans Wes from the previous books. His PTSD was presented with sympathy and understanding and the scene where he visits his army buddy who survived a blast in Afghanistan which almost killed Ryker's unit, was heartbreaking and touching.

I liked Rachel a lot as well. She tried to have a casual sexual relationship with Nathan but this just wasn't her. She cared about the people around her and grew to care even more for Nathan.

They struggle with the feelings they develop for each other. He treats her rather awful at some point, in a misguided attempt to let her go for her thinking he is not good enough for her. He was ultimately forgiven after a particularly sweet apology scene, still I felt his transgressions were too great and he needed to do a lot more grovelling before they got back together.

I loved the happy end, but it felt rushed, all things were tied up a bit too neatly.

PS: I think that Josh was an interesting character and deserves his HEA in a book of his own, hint, hint, Ms Jordan :)

Overall, this is a great light sexy series, and even tough this installment had a darker, more serious dimension, still it makes a perfect read for the beach this summer.

Sassy, smart, and sexy, former supermodel-turned-tech guru Rubi Russo has it all—looks, money, confidence and freedom. Her life is a whirlwind of fast cars and fleeting affairs—and she likes it that way. With a past like Rubi’s, forever isn’t part of her vocabulary. So when studly Renegade stuntman Wes Lawson wants to take their friendship to the next level, she’s all out.

Raised a simple country-boy, Wes knows the brazen Rubi isn’t his type. But after spending time with her, he discovers she’s everything he’s ever wanted in a woman. To win her wild rebel heart, he’ll have to prove he sees behind her smokescreen to all the goodness she tries to hide. Then it’s just a matter of crushing her fears, shattering her barriers, and convincing her that loving him is everything she’s been missing in her life, too.

Piece of cake.

My Review

This is the second book in the Renegades series Skye Jordan, it delivers the same light and sexy fun as book 1, Reckless. I feel like there is more romance in the story of Rubi and Wes, but there is also more drama, which got just a bit too much towards the end of the book.

This series features the type of romance that I would describe as fairy tale of dream romance. We have these gorgeous and smart and successful, almost perfect people who meet and fall in love. You need to suspend your belief in order to accept their romance and fully enjoy it.

Wes and Rubi start as friends when they meet through their best friends, Lexi and Jax, whom we meet in Reckless. There is undeniable chemistry between them but Rubi is reluctant to act on it because of her fear of abandonment and commitment issues.

Wes is just perfect, even too good to be true, still I loved him. He It was Rubi whom I had difficulty liking enough. I understood her issues, yet it took her far too long to deal with them. Wes was so determinate, confident in what he wanted and it was really frustrating to watch Rubi's hesitation, her going back and forth in her decisions.

I liked the reversal of the traditional roles in romance where the man is a player and he finds a sweet, innocent girl who manages to tame (change) him. In this story it was Rubi who was more sexually experienced and adventurous than Wes. She enjoyed her one-night stands and was not interested in having a long-term relationship. Wes was a more traditional, monogamous guy, going for beautiful, yet ordinary.

They were so wrong for each other, yet they complemented and challenged each other and that made their relationship work so well. It was not just hot chemistry between them, there was admiration and respect, common interests and the need and desire to take care and help the other one.

It wasn't a smooth ride for those Rubi and Wes. Her issues ran really deep, and his ex girl-friend didn't help matters. Still, the drama surrounding their coming together was a bit excessive. I think that their final break-up was unnecessary. It was just one too many obstacles to the happy end.

On the plus side, I loved the presence of Jax and Lexi in this book. They have crucial roles in the lives of both Rubi and Wes and I am really happy with the way their own story was further developed.

My main disappointment with this book was the ending. It felt rushed and I wish it was developed in some more detail. Since, there will be a third book in the series (I didn't get any clues as whom it will be about, but I am hoping it is Rachel and one of the other Renegades), I hope we will see more of Wes and Rubi actually being together as a couple.

Despite some minor weaknesses, overall it was a light fun read with some hot sexy times coupled with sweet romance.

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Here are the rules:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• Be careful not the include spoilers!
• Share the title & author so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers.

I have modified them slightly for my Teasers. It will not be two sentences from a random page but two, usually more, sentences from the pages I have read so far that have struck me as most interesting, original or that I just happen to like a lot.

This week's teaser comes from my current read, Rebel (Renegades #2) by Skye Jordan. This time I am keeping it short and sweet. I have read the first book in the series, Reckless, (my review), so I decided to continue with the second one. I am almost done with it and it is just as enjoyable, fun, sexy read as book 1.

"Rubi. Out of all the women he could have fallen in love with, he'd gone and fallen for Rubi Russo? Seriously?"

A couture wedding dress designer to the rich and famous, Lexi LaCroix’s image means everything. But crossing paths with a sexier-than-sin, bad-boy biker makes Lexi realize how much living she’s sacrificed for her success and one touch is all it takes to threaten her carefully choreographed life. When that touch fills far more than just Lexi’s physical needs, she finds herself torn between the career she needs and the bad-boy she craves.

Jax Chamberlin gave up the superficial life of acting for the thrill of running his own stunt company years ago. But a recent betrayal proves he’s still too close to the limelight to find a woman who doesn’t plan to use him as a stepping-stone to success. When the charming and mysterious Lexi offers him a totally anonymous hook-up during an out of town trip, Jax accepts. Only Lexi is more sextacular than charming, and Jax wants more.

But Lexi’s got a major hang-up over his renegade lifestyle, and Jax isn’t willing to change his ways. Especially not when he discovers who she really is. Because if she finds out his connections could catapult her to the top of her career, he’s afraid the fantasy woman he’s falling for might just end up like all the other gold-diggers. And this time, it’s not just his bad-boy reputation at risk, but his heart, too.

My Review

Reckless was a funny, steamy read which I really enjoyed. It is a cute romance set in the flashy world of Hollywood and bridal fashion for millionaires. The love story of Jax and Lexi had its fair share of obstacles, but fortunately lacked too much drama and angst.

The way the affair between Jax and Lexi happened from her getting his number to the scene at the fashion show in the end was rather unrealistic and improbable, yet I would just describe their story as the romance of dreams. For me this is a romance we all dream of - perfect people who gorgeous and smart, super rich and successful, meet and immediately share sizzling-hot chemistry and then fall head-over-heels madly in love. It is the perfect fairytale that doesn't happen in real life, yet one can always dream or read about in romance novels :)

The book has a very nice, light-hearted feel to it. It is quite a steamy read, coupled with funny banter between the characters and reading it just puts you in a feel-good, happy mood. There are some obstacles the characters need to overcome en route to their HEA, but they are nothing major, and ultimately love does conquer all.

My main complaint with this book which defers me from giving it a higher rating is the writing. While I do like short, one-word sentences, they should only be used sparingly, for emphasis. When they are overused, they become distracting and annoying. As a whole the writing style felt simplistic and repetitive and at times it distracted me from the story itself.

Although I love the happy ending for Jax and Lexi, I would have liked to read an epilogue, or chapter of them further along in the future as a more estalished couple.

I am looking forward to the next instalment in the series, hoping that it will be about Wes (and Rubi?). I will also be really happy to see more of Jax and Lexi in the next book.

My teaser this week comes from Reckless (Renegades #1) by Skye Jordan. It is a rather hot, fun read where the worlds of movies and fashion collide. It is nothing overly dramtic or angst-filled for a change and I am really enjoying it.
